— Think back to four years ago. —
Do you remember the highlight or the biggest part of your year in 2017?
I ask because I would like to show you all how fast four years can go by.
I realised this because when I was 26, as a young black man, things such as Critical Heath cover never really crossed my mind.
When they did come up, I didn’t give it as much thought as I should have.
My grandfather had critical health issues and back then, I did not believe these were hereditary. I did not believe I had those genes. I did not worry about them as much as I probably should have.
Fast-forward to me at 30, and I found myself needing and acquiring life cover. I suffered a critical health event (had to undergo an emergency heart surgery) and I had a 3 year old son at the time.
I didn’t want to leave him in a difficult position so life cover was the best option to make me feel reassured that he’d be looked after.
This is something I would encourage everyone to get, especially members of the African and Caribbean community in diaspora.
These are conversations that should be had with young adults as part of future preparation. You never know what could happen in the future with regard to your health and this is a safe option to make sure that you and the people close to you are looked after.
